Good Friday Earthquake March 27, 1964 Anchorage, AK

These are scans from Positive Slides that Jean took the day of, and the first few days after the earthquake.    Most of these are on Kodachrome, but she would just as readily shoot Agfa for certain subjects.    For those who have ever shot color reversal film, you know that this medium is not for the faint of heart.    At least half and perhaps more of her surviving work are positive slides.  I remember those years, knowing that unlike negative film there is very little latitude with slides....... over-expose them and they are basically junk.  It never failed to impress me that referring to her light meter was usually an after thought, she rarely pulled it out of her bag. What was more amazing was that it was predictable that she would get 35-37 good frames from a roll.  These images were not scanned by me, but by a friend of hers in Anchorage.  Someday I may get the initiative to either take them into a photo editor and try to eliminate all the hair and gunk, or perhaps just rescan them after a careful cleaning.   Until then, please enjoy these rare images in the condition in which I received them.
