Part of the benefits of living in Reno, is that just about anywhere in Lake Tahoe is within an hour.   Incline Village is maybe 40 minutes. Oh sure, it may not be quite as beautiful as Lake Geneva, nor as deep as Crater Lake.  However, if you enjoy having world class skiing, hiking, golfing, or dining within a doable distance, then "the Lake" is always one of the first places your out-of-town friends will want to witness.  Locally, Truckee is considered something of an extension to Lake Tahoe, so I include it here. The Truckee River flows out of Lake Tahoe down to Truckee, fills up three reservoirs there, and then winds through the mountains to Reno before emptying into Pyramid Lake.  It is all connected.
